Obituary

Wayne Anderson, 65, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 10, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM at St. Petri Cemetery in Bruce, SD. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Wayne Edward Anderson was born October 8, 1958, to Roger and Rose (Bombeck) Anderson in Brookings, SD. He grew up in Stickney, SD, and graduated from there in 1976. He then attended Mitchell Tech for plumbing and pipe fitting.

Wayne married Charleen Uhing in 1980. He then moved to Wyoming, where all five of his children were born. The family relocated to Clarinda, IA for work. After 12 years of marriage, he moved to Stickney with his three oldest children and started his plumbing business. Later in his career, he joined the local 300 plumbers and pipefitters. Wayne grew a strong fellowship with his Union brothers.

Wayne enjoyed bowling, swimming, stock car races, and all sports. His favorite hobby was fishing and camping with family. He loved watching his gameshows and western movies. Most of all, Wayne cherished spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandson. Wayne was one of a kind and was always thinking of others. Wayne was looking forward to sharing more memories in his retired years. Wayne was a man of many nicknames, Virgil Ward, Igar Anderson, but most importantly, Dad and Grandpa. We love you, always and forever.

Wayne is survived by his sons, Jason Anderson and Mark (Ariel) Anderson all of Mitchell, SD; daughters, Lisa Anderson of Mitchell, SD, Vicki Anderson of Waconia, MN, and Kayla Anderson of Yankton, SD; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson; and brothers, Gordon Anderson of Stickney, SD and Darrell “Red” (Joyce) Anderson of Watertown, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thinking of all of Wayne's family during this difficult time. His love for his family was very evident. Grew up in Stickney with Wayne so have known him and his family a long time. My sympathy to you all.

This is still so unreal. A great man gone far too soon. Thank you for shaping my husband into the man he is for our family. A loving husband - a trick of all trades - the best father to our children - a good man. All the same qualities you had. Thank you for taking our boys camping, fishing, and to the races. You will never know how much they loved you for all the time you spent with them. And thank you for being the best father-in-law, Wayne. Until we meet again.
