Obituary

Tammy Miller, 62, of Fargo, ND, passed away Friday, February 27, 2026, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, after a short illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 6, at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.

Tamara Kay “Tammy” Miller was born on January 29, 1964, in Mitchell to Robert and Kay Miller. She grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School before continuing her education at Augustana and later the University of Sioux Falls (formerly Sioux Falls College), where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.

Tammy was devoted to helping others. She worked as a social worker at Prairie Freedom Center in Sioux Falls, where she assisted individuals with compassion, patience, and care. She also worked at Walmart during her time in Sioux Falls. In recent years, she made her home in Fargo.

Tammy was kind, quick-witted, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her laugh was unmistakable, and her familiar phrase, “Oh dear,” will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved her. She had a love for perfume, jewelry, skincare products, makeup, and coffee. She loved shopping and spending time at the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls, where she could often be found at the perfume counter at Dayton's. On more than one occasion, her enthusiasm and speed prompted mall security to gently remind her to slow down in her wheelchair. It was a fitting reflection of how Tammy approached life: with energy, independence, and determination. Though she navigated life with physical challenges, they never defined her. Tammy lived independently and fully, meeting each day with resilience, humor, and a desire to enjoy what she loved. She adored her two cats, Reggie and Olivia, who brought her daily companionship and joy. Tammy was a devoted and often frustrated fan of the Minnesota Vikings, faithfully cheering them on each season. She also enjoyed spending time playing online games, especially Candy Crush.

Family meant everything to Tammy. She loved her nieces and nephews dearly and took great pride in watching them grow. She is also survived by her beloved aunt, Sandy Nohr, who was not only family but a dear friend and the only person willing to join Tammy each Christmas in enjoying lutefisk and onions, a tradition they shared with laughter and good humor.

Tammy is survived by her parents, Robert and Kay Miller of Mitchell, SD; her siblings, Angie (Dave) Hoffman of Alexandria, SD, Lisa Hanson of Mitchell, SD, and Todd Miller (Brian Duis) of Stillwater, MN; nieces, Kaesey, Allie, and Sawyer; and nephew, Aaron.

We know Tammy because of our dear friend Todd who always spoke so lovingly of Tammy and the whole family. Being part of Todd and Brian's chosen family is such an important part of my life, along with their many New York based friends/family. Our deepest sympathy and love goes out to the whole Miller family - may her charm, wit, good will, passion, generosity, determination, and love live on in your hearts while you mourn and heal from her passing from this earth - and may she forever rest in peace, love, and power. β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Kay, Bob & family,
So very sorry to hear of Tammy's passing! I remember my mom babysitting when Tammy was just a baby. We truly fell in love with the beautiful baby girl that she was with her beautiful smile & blonde curly hair! Tammy sounds like nothing slowed her down & she continued to be the determined beautiful person that she was. I love hearing the story of the mall cop telling her to slow down 😁 I will always remember her with love. May God wrap you all in his loving arms & comfort you @ this most difficult time. Memories eternal πŸ™βœοΈ πŸ₯°πŸ€—πŸ’•
