Steven Eric Thompson was born June 25th, 1948, in Wessington Springs, South Dakota to Lauren and Irene Thompson. He and his three sisters were raised on the family farm northwest of Wessington Springs. Steven graduated from Wessington Springs High School in the class of 1966. He was married to his love, Linda Rae Houska, on January 11th, 1970. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Michelle Irene, Eric Lewis, and Ryan Lee.

Throughout his life, Steven held many titles some of which were with Power Use and Tri-Country Electric in Plankinton as a power-linemen. After his venture in Plankinton, Steve and Linda moved back to Wessington Springs in March of 1981 to begin farming full-time. He spent many years farming, but his love was raising their black angus cattle. Through those years he served in the SD National Guard during the Rapid City Flood of 1972, on the Board of Directors for Jerauld County Coop, the Jerauld County FSA Board, and many years of service on Marlar and Harmony Township Board.

His one true passion in life was following his ten grandchildren around. He was looking forward to the two upcoming weddings of his grandchildren and the arrival of his first great-grandchild.

He is survived in death by his wife of 54 years, Linda; children, Michelle (Jeff) Tong, Eric (Jill) Thompson, and Ryan (Jennifer) Thompson; grandchildren: Kaci (Collin) Anson, Kayla (Sam) Kretschmar, Dylan Schimke, Austin Schimke, Brayden (Katie) Thompson, Blake Thompson, Lauren Thompson, Peyton Thompson, McKenzie Thompson, and Oakley Thompson; sisters, Patricia (Ellis) Millar, Peggy (Lauren) Burger, and Lori (Thomas) White; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steven Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents Lauren and Irene, stepmother Alma, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the care Steven received while at Weskota Memorial Hospital, Sanford Health, and Ava’s House.
