Stanley Hofwolt, 68, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 2, at RiverTree Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM prayer service at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Stanley David Hofwolt was born on August 22, 1956, to Lloyd and Alva (Moore) Hofwolt in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Stan attended school in Salem, SD and graduated from Salem High School in the spring of 1975. After high school, he joined the Coast Guard and served from 1976-1980. Upon leaving the Coast Guard, Stan drove truck and was a welder at Trail King, Mitchell, SD.
Stan and Joanne Adams wed on October 15, 1988. The two were happily married for 32 years. Stan and Joanne lived in Madison, SD, where their daughter Anna Marie was born before moving to Mitchell, SD. Stan and Joanne fostered many children over a period of 25 years and adopted four of them: Anthony, Alexander, William, and Sara. Stan, along with his wife, were proud members of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. Steadfast in his faith, Stan worked to instill this in his children. One of his greatest joys was being Papa to his four grandchildren, Paige, Ivan, August, and Lola.
Stan was a kindhearted and loving man. He made those invited into his home feel welcome. He was full of laughter, was caring and had a genuine love for people. Those who know him described him as loving, smart, took the time to listen and made you feel worthy.
Stan is survived by his daughters, Anna (Steven) Nussbaum of Plankinton, SD, and Sara Hofwolt of Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Anthony Bear Robe-Hofwolt of Elko, NV, William Hofwolt of Sioux Falls, SD, and Alexander Bear Robe Hofwolt of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Paige, Ivan, August, and Lola Nussbaum of Plankinton, SD; brothers, Allan Hofwolt of Lyons, CO, and Brad (Joanie) Hofwolt of Amelia, OH; sister, Mary (Barry) Lemon of Amelia, OH; sister-in-law, Cindy of Mitchell, SD; along with his extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins, and others grateful to have been a part of his life.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; parents; brothers, Steve, Jim, and an infant brother Kennth; and sister-in-law, Sheila.
