Obituary

Shelly Buchholz, 63, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at her home under hospice care in Mitchell. A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 11, at Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Shelly Rae Buchholz was born on December 31, 1962, to Gary and stepmother Deanna (Meier) Cooper in Lead, SD. Shelly grew up with two sisters and five brothers. Shelly attended Lead-Deadwood schools.

Shelly married Curtis Buchholz in Mitchell on November 20, 1981. Together, they built a life centered on family. Shelly was a bright face in the room and a one-of-a-kind person you could never forget. She was a babysitter to all her young family members, along with plenty of spoiling along the way. Shelly grew up in Lead, moved to Idaho, and made Mitchell her final home.

Shelly is survived by her husband, Curtis Buchholz; children, Curtis Buchholz II of Mitchell, SD, Michael Buchholz of Deadwood, SD, and Misty Snyder of Mitchell, SD; siblings, Dean, Darrin, Melany, Britt, and Tracy; and 8 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gary and Dee Cooper, and brothers, Brian and Leeyn.

Mom I will miss you. You are a one of a kind beautiful amazing woman and a great mom. I know us kids never made it easy on you but you kept us in line. With you you I would not be the man I am today. You taught me how to be a man and how to treat a woman. I will forever be greatfull for all you have done and taught me. I love you mom and I miss you already.
