Robert “Bob” Hohn, 73, of Mitchell, formerly of Dimock, SD, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, with family by his side. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Thursday, March 19, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Dimock, SD. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.

Robert Alvin Hohn was born January 19, 1953, to Elmer and Saluma (Herrmann) Hohn in Parkston, SD. Bob grew up on a farm west of Dimock. He had a hard work ethic from a young age, getting up at 5 AM to help with farm chores before getting on the school bus. He attended Sts. Peter & Paul Parochial School in Dimock for eight years, and graduated from Parkston High School in 1971. After graduation, Bob went to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, for basic training. He served in the National Guard for six years.

Bob’s employment began at Coca-Cola in Mitchell. He then took welding through Mitchell Vo Tech School. His next job was at Dakota Pump. In 1976, he started working at Dimock Dairy Products, making cheese for 21 years. In 2000, Bob started working at Graphic Packaging in Mitchell, until retiring in 2015. In retirement, Bob worked part-time at County Fair for five years, enjoying the job and making new friends.

Bob married Diane Suhr at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Dimock on November 6, 1981. They welcomed their daughter, Angie, on April 17, 1983. They lived in Dimock for 25 years, until moving to Mitchell in 2006. In Mitchell, they attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where Bob was an usher.

Bob enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, Gunsmoke, and other old TV shows. A favorite adventure of Bob’s was when he and Diane took a bus trip to a Twins game. Bob and Diane also helped deliver Meals on Wheels. Bob always kept busy with yard work.

Above all, family was the most important aspect of Bob’s life, especially his three grandchildren. They meant the world to “Papa”. The grandkids spent a lot of summer vacation at Papa and Nana’s house, and they could talk their grandparents into almost anything. Bob and Diane loved attending the grandkids’ school activities. The last three summers, the whole family went on a camping trip to Wylie Park in Aberdeen.

Bob is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter, Angie (Doug) Fuhrer; grandchildren, Brynlee, Addisyn, and Grayson Fuhrer; sister, Mary (August) Geigle of Parkston; brother, Doug (Jill) Hohn of Dimock; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and in-laws, Leonard and Marie Suhr.

Sending prayers and support to your family. Bob was a classmate and we will remember his smile. He always had time to stop and talk and his kindness will be remembered.

Diane and family. We're so sorry for the loss of Bob. We will always remember that smile he always had when would run into him. I always called him easy money and he would always grin from ear to ear. We are in Texas and won't be able to attend the services but we will keep Bob and family in our prayers.
