Robert “Bob” DeBoer was born in Springfield, SD on October 4, 1940 to Martin and Esther (Dahlenburg) DeBoer. He attended local country schools, and in 1967 he studied and passed his GED.
Bob was married to Shiela VanLaecken in Letcher, SD on April 28, 1962.
Bob worked for several local businesses and began his employment at UPS in 1973. At this same time, they purchased their first farm ground and continued to farm and raise cattle. Bob loved his family, farming, and raising cattle.
In his younger days, Bob loved water skiing. He was proud of the fact that he could ski around Lake Mitchell, non-stop. He spent the fall and winter snowmobiling, hunting, feeding cattle, and visiting sale barns. He could spot a pheasant from a good distance. Bob loved Las Vegas. The sites, sounds, food, and of course the gambling. He had pretty good luck with the machines.
Bob was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Moose Lodge. He was also a past member of the Mitchell Trap League.
Bob was a man of few words. He said what he meant, and meant what he said.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sheila; son, Don; daughters, Susie (David) Hagerty and Michelle Erickson; five grandchildren, Derek, Destenie, and Dallas DeBoer, Makayla Hagerty, and Makenzie (Michael) Hagerty Reichelt; great-granddaughter, Aubree; sisters, Marjorie Bjerke of Jamestown, ND and Lila Letcher of Medford, OR; brother-in-law, Jack Wieblehaus of Mitchell; sister-in-law, Linda DeBoer of Woonsocket; and several nieces and nephews.
