Dick was born the oldest son of Mabel (Lindblad) and Lawrence McEntee on August 18, 1938, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He graduated high school from Notre Dame Academy in 1956 and joined the Army. Upon his discharge, he returned home to work on the family farm to further support his family. He met his lovely wife, Shirley (Rheault), at the “Days of 76” and they married on November 12, 1966. In 1968, Dick and Shirley welcomed their first daughter, Lisa, followed by Amy and Jennifer, three and ten years later. He worked hard to make sure his family was taken care of and felt loved and supported every day.
He enjoyed serving Mitchell and its surrounding communities through his vocation as a milk man for many years. He also spent countless hours serving the Mitchell community through the Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Special Olympics. He loved cultivating his garden, playing cards, serving his community, watching his daughters’ sporting events, playing with his grandchildren… Simply put, he enjoyed living.
Dick was a deeply beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his committed and devoted wife, Shirley McEntee; three daughters, Lisa (James) Gibbon, Amy (Kevin) Taina, and Jennifer McEntee (John Gotelli); two sisters, Carole (Bill) Davis and Janis McEntee; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, along with his “adopted” family including the staff and nurses at Avera Brady Health and Rehab.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores (Tooty) Gossman; brother, Stephan McEntee; brother in infancy, Jimmy; and brother-in-law, Paul (Tooty) Gossman.
Our beloved father and husband left this world a better place and he continues to live in all of us!!!
