Obituary

Ray Havrevold, 87, of Mitchell, SD, died Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, October 25, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. 

Ray C. Havrevold was born May 16, 1937 to Walter and Nettie (Nelson) Havrevold in Volga, SD. He graduated from Volga High School where he participated in all major sports.   Ray served 4 years in  the US Air Force as a jet mechanic crew chief.

Ray was united in marriage to Judy Bjerke on October 12, 1957, in Volga at Oslo Lutheran Church. To this union, two sons and one daughter were born.

Ray was employed by Firestone as an automotive service technician retiring after 25 years of service.  He also worked at Toshiba for 5 years. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and was on the Board of Trustees. Ray was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.  GO PACK GO!

Ray is survived by his wife Judy; sons, Tim (Deb) of Minneapolis, MN and Paul of Mitchell; daughter, Diane (Louie) Sullivan of Mitchell; grandchildren, Matthew (Lauren) Havrevold, Alex (Summer) Havrevold, Tyler (Nikki) Sullivan, and Guy (Abby) Sullivan; and great-grandchildren, Lydia Sullivan, CeCe Sullivan, and Jordy Sullivan.  He is also survived by his brother-in-laws Ron (Wilma) Bjerke and Bryan (Lisa) Bjerke and sister-in-law Beverly Bjerke and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lester, Ivan, Don, and Wally; and sister, Lillian Hermandson. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws Guy and Lillian Bjerke and brother-in-law Gerald Bjerke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Zion Lutheran Building Fund; 620 E 3rd Ave, Mitchell, SD 57301.

Judy, I am so glad I had such a nice visit with Ray at the cousins picnic. We reminisced about our days in high school sports. I told him how many times I enjoyed watching him compete. The visit with him will remain with me. Take care. Love John
