Obituary

Randy Hempel, 62, of Kimball, SD, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at his home in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 30, at Kimball Protestant Parish in Kimball. Burial will be at Kimball Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Randy Scott Hempel was born on December 17, 1962, in Rapid City, SD to Alden and Jeanette (Hodge) Hempel. Randy attended school in Kimball, where he also held numerous jobs. The most recent being at Puetz Design Build where he had dedicated the last 20 years. This was also where he met and formed lifelong friendships with so many wonderful people.

Randy enjoyed life but his pride and joy were “the kids” - his two dogs, Jack and Opie. Anyone who knew him, knew his dogs were his whole world. He spoiled them to no end and never left their side. Randy enjoyed attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and all the oldies concerts it had to offer. He also spent the days fishing, camping, and having a good time. If Randy was around, the fun would be had. He was a very gentle man, never angry, and always saw the positive in everything. He was rarely seen without a smile and boomed a laugh you can’t forget.

Randy is survived by his dogs, Jack and Opie; sisters, Dawn Hempel of Mitchell and Connie Beaulieu of Minnesota; brother, Perry Hempel of Kimball; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sherry and Joyce; brothers, Mike, Lee, Clifford, Punky, and Rick; sister-in-law, Gloria; and great-nephew, Kilian Hempel.

If you feel obliged, please join us in wearing your bandanas in Remembrance of Randy Wednesday at the visitation.
