Obituary

Delton Randall “Randy” Bormann, 60, of Stickney, SD, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in Naples, FL.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, January 20, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney, SD. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Thursday with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be in the Blooming Valley Cemetery at rural Stickney.

Delton Randall Bormann was born February 20, 1962 in Mitchell, SD to Delton and Henrietta VandenHoek Bormann. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Stickney. Randy graduated from Stickney High School in 1980 and then proceeded in attending SDSU in Brookings, SD, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. Randy returned to the family farm where he resided and farmed his entire life. On May 31, 1986, he married Debra Werning. Randy was an avid reader, always studying the latest in farming, ag techniques, and economics. He was an avid fan of many sports, shooting pool, darts, golf, basketball, football, especially the Dallas Cowboys, and all sporting activities his children were involved in. Randy was a man of adventure and enjoyed the many vacations and excursions he was blessed to participate in with his whole family and many friends. Hawaii was the only remaining state he had not adventured with his immediate family within the United States. Randy was a man that strongly believed in stewardship with the Lord - stewardship of family, career, friends, and the influence spread to others. Randy was a very principled man and rarely had to speak a word to display his firm roots. The legacy of his life left for his surviving family will forever be cherished.

He is survived by his wife Debra; three sons: Alex of Mitchell, Adam (McKenzie) of Stickney, and Austin of Sioux Falls; granddaughter, Maren Bormann; sister, Connie Deinert; niece, Abby (Doyle) Burnside of Sioux Falls; and mother-in-law, Alvina Werning of Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Marvin Werning.

Deb and family,

My thoughts are with you and your family. Losing a spouse/father is so hard, especially at our age. God has never promised us tomorrow, which is why we must live for today. Such a hard thing to remember...I hope happy memories of the years you spent together bring comfort. Draw on the strength of your family and friends.

I have struggled to find words. Randy and I grew up together as did our grandfathers, and fathers. I remember attending the Corsica celebration as kids, riding on the back of our dad’s motorcycles going to Corsica Lake, herding cattle together, riding our own motorcycles, being classmates, getting confirmed together as our dad’s did, family times spent at the river, eating meals together as families when growing up, making Connie hauls us around in the orange Beatle. Our families go back along way. Though we grew up, moved away whenever we saw each other it was our common bond of are youthful years that kept us. You are gone too soon and I am sad. Deb, boys and family you are in my prayers. Please give Connie my condolences as well!

We were so surprised and saddened to hear of Randy’s passing. My sister, Liz, and I (daughters of Dennis Borman & granddaughters of E G Bormann in Stickney send you our prayers & support. As the Bormann family reuses names, I continued the tradition & named my daughter Randi Bunn. My dad & Delton continued to see each other annually up until they passed. I remember hanging out with Tammy when we came to visit when I was younger, & Greg & Randy would also be out cruising the 5 block Main Street! When my mom passed in 2020, I was going to come visit you folks, but my health is bad. I’m just now improving and was going to b CNN one up this Spring. I probably still will, but I’m so sorry it will be under these circumstances. We pray you can feel Randy around you along with the loving embrace of our Lord. Bless your family.

I am saddened by the passing of Randy. I remember fondly our times playing football and watching him play basketball. And yes I still listen to the mixed cassette tapes he made me. He was a kind and generous man. Prayers for Randy and his family.

Praying for his eternal peace and comfort to the family. The last few times we spoke he reminded me so much of playing football in Stickney and all the good times we had at SDSU. Thanks for all the fond memories Randy... Especially cruising around in "the Bird" on a Saturday night.
