Patrick “Pat” Ziegler, 60, of Dimock, SD, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in his home surrounded by family under the compassionate care Avera Hospice Care. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 9, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.
Patrick Allen Ziegler was born on March 4, 1965, in McLaughlin, SD, to Roy and Janet (Crawford) Ziegler. The youngest of five children, he grew up embraced by the love and guidance of his older siblings, Dan, Bill, Kathy, and Lynn.
In the summer of 1965, Pat's family moved to Pierre, where he attended Lincoln Grade School. After completing the fourth grade, they relocated to Mitchell. Pat continued his education at Eugene Field Elementary, Mitchell Junior High, and Mitchell High School, graduating with the Class of 1983. He went on to attend Mitchell Area Vo-Tech, earning his degree in Electronics Communications in 1986.
Pat lived a life marked by dedication and service. He enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard in 1982, serving with A Battery, 147th Field Artillery, before transferring to State and Area Command (STARC HQ) as a Radio Mechanic. He received an honorable discharge in 1988. Pat later re-enlisted in 2005 with the 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment (MPAD) as a Photojournalist. He proudly deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism, earning a second honorable discharge in 2007.
Pat's professional life reflected his passion for electronics, communication, and technology. He spent 14 years at KDLT-TV as Assistant Chief Engineer. From 2000 to 2015, he worked with Wholesale Electronics, specializing in website development and sales. In 2015, he joined CHR Solutions as a Senior OSP Design Technician, retiring in August 2025 as his health declined.
On April 6, 2024, Pat married Tena Block, his partner in love, laughter, and faith. Together, they cherished camping trips, music, watching races, and attending countless sporting events and musical performances for their grandchildren. They made their home on what Pat fondly called "our own little slice of heaven" near Dimock, where early mornings shared over a 5:00 a.m. cup of coffee became their treasured routine.
Pat was deeply proud of his family and loved spending time with them. Together they cheered on the Dallas Cowboys, played guitar, made music, took photos, and shared laughter.
Pat is survived by his wife, Tena; son, Joey Ziegler of Buffalo, MO; daughter, Renee (John) Schroeder of Mitchell, SD; grandchildren, Trinity (Trevor) Sprik, Bella, Dawson, Elijah, Londyn, and Amirrah Schroeder; and great-granddaughter, Lily Jo Sprik, Pat was blessed with stepchildren he loved as his own: Tasha (Jesse Boyer) Stahl, Jayme (Dena Martin) Peterson, Krisy (Chris Brenner) Peterson, and Amber (Chad) Erdmann, along with 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Janet Ziegler; uncles, Peter, Claude, and Joe Ziegler; aunts, Mary Bagewell and Victoria Senger; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and a beloved grandchild who passed before birth.
Pat will be remembered for his love of guitars and all things music, his eye for photography, his skill in woodworking, his quiet strength, his devotion to service, his sharp technical mind, his wonderful sense of humor, and the deep love he held for his family and for the Lord.
