Obituary

Patricia Stanley, 73, of Mitchell, SD, formerly of Anderson, IN, passed away peacefully into Heaven Friday, September 12, 2025, at home in Mitchell following an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, September 19, at Bittner Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Tim Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD, on Monday, September 22, with Rev. Terry Cunningham officiating.

Patricia Ann Stanley was born on December 26, 1951, in Anderson, Indiana to Philip Earl and Phyllis Marie (Dwigins) Cunningham. She attended Anderson High School. She retired from Anderson University after many years of employment in the food service department.

Known as Aunt Patty to her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, she held a special place in their lives. She loved her family and friends fiercely, including special friends, Liz Cunningham, Kathy Shaw and Bettye Griffith. She loved to go camping and loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed doing puzzles and watching tv shows, including, Golden Girls and Gunsmoke.

Patricia is survived by her husband of 55-1/2 years whom she married on January 17, 1970, Daniel Joe Stanley; a son, Daniel Joe Stanley II; a granddaughter, McKenzie Raelyn Becker; three brothers, Tim Phillip (wife, Debbie) Cunningham, Terry Lee (wife, Kristie) Cunningham and Paul David (wife, Autumn) Cunningham; a sister, Toni Gayle Whitaker; and several nieces, nephews and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Earl and Phyllis Marie Cunningham; a brother, Thomas Earl Cunningham; her maternal grandparents, Doris E. "Diggy" and Martha Rozella Dwigans; paternal grandmother, Ruth Alice Cunningham; paternal grandfather and step grandmother, James Cunningham and Dortha Cunningham; a sister-in-law, Triena Cunningham; a sister-in-law and special friend, Elizabeth "Liz" Cunningham; a brother-in-law, James Henry Whitaker; and a special friend, Kathy Shaw.

She was sweet loving person my and siblings used to the night while mom and would go to races every weekend at the Anderson speedway but she is at rest and no more suffering love your niece

Dear Aunt Patty, you are loved more then words could say more then actions could prove and more then what this earth has to offer selfless I wish you were still here graciously I’m glad you have gone home I will miss you always and I will do my best to help watch over uncle Danny until he can come home to be with you, when you walked through thought gates I hope you greeted by Jesus with open arms with a long line of loved ones grandma and papaw my mom grandma Liz Lisa and every other loved ones who have gone home before us may your love shine down on us as we await our turn home
