Obituary

Mary Luckett, 90, of Letcher, SD, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 27, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with visitation one hour prior. Burial at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.

Mary Louise Luckett was born on September 5, 1935, to Alvie and Hannah (Peterson) Enfield, in Sanborn County, SD. She graduated from Letcher High School.

On January 29, 1984, she married Cecil Luckett in Mitchell, SD. Mary worked for JCPenney for 40 years. Mary enjoyed gardening and served her community as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary.

Mary is survived by her husband, Cecil Luckett; son, Douglas (Jin) Hunter of Yuba City, CA; stepchildren, Lawane (Rhonda) Luckett of Sherman, TX, Zeke (Elizabeth) Wampler of Holcomb, TX, Raylene (Jeff) Froman of Boone, CO, and Malinda (Greg) DeBey of Coats, NC; two grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Shirley Enfield of Letcher, SD.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mike Hunter; her first husband, Robert Hunter; and brother, Maynard Enfield.

MARY WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL LADY. WE HAD GREAT TIMES AT THE HOLIDAY INN FOR HAVING HAPPY HOUR AND DANCING AFTER WE GOT OFF WORK. SHE AND MYSELF WILL NEVER FORGET THE.COWBELL AT CLOSING TIME. AND WE KEPT OUR BOSS ON HIS TOES AT WORK!!! Cecil, she will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know her. I am sorry for your Great loss. I will never forget her.

Mary was a special person. I spent many hours over their house when they lived in Mitchell. Doug I’m sorry for the loss your mom.
