Lorraine Montefering, 82, of Parkston, SD, died Friday, March 31, 2023, at her home in Parkston. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 5, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7:00 PM at the Church with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Lorraine Montefering was born March 9, 1941, to Matthew and Mary (Schmidt) Weber in Dimock, SD. She attended Dimock Catholic School.
Lorraine was united in marriage to Allen Montefering. Together they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Lorraine worked at the Mitchell Methodist Hospital and then as a farmwife for 58 years, working her flowers, gardening, and canning. She loved her cats. She also loved quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 58 years and was a member of the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. Lorraine was a recipient of the Gold Star for the actions of her son, Jason.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Allen; son, Scott of Parkston; daughters, Lyndia Montefering of Parkston, Charlene Montefering of Armour, Cindy Montefering of Mitchell, Dawn (Dean) Soukup of Parkston, and Carrie Tollefson of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; siblings, Delores Leitheiser of Emery and Jerry (Lois) Weber of Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Evonne Weber of Sioux Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jason; sisters, Florentine (Harold) Pike and MaryAnn (Norbert) Sommers; brother, Ed Weber; and brother-in-law, Harold Leitheiser.
