Loraine Donna Larsen was born August 28, 1941 to Cigvold and Kate Larsen. Loraine grew up in Kimball and after graduating high school attended Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen.

Loraine worked as a nurse for Redfield public school for 32 years before retiring in 1996.

Loraine enjoyed spending time with her nephews Brandon, Ryan, Garrett, and her great nephews and nieces Braeden, Carter, Kate, Chloe, and Kaleb. Brandon, Ryan, and Garrett spent several weeks each summer in Redfield with their aunts making great memories. Loraine enjoyed traveling with her sister Lavonne, and traveled extensively for many years during their summer breaks. Their trips took them from the West Coast to the East Coast and Canada to Texas. They loved to travel and see the country! Loraine also took great pride in her yard. She spent countless hours in her yard tending to her trees, flowers, vines, and shrubs and filling her bird feeders. If you visited Loraine, she was going to show you her yard!

Loraine is survived by her sister, Lavonne; nephew, Brandon (Jackie) Stadler and their children, Kate and Chloe; nephew, Ryan (Tanna) and their children, Braeden, Carter, and Kaleb; and brother-in-law, John Stadler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister LeAnn Stadler, and nephew Garrett Stadler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Kimball or St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings.

We want to express our condolences to you, LaVonne and to all the nephews who shared love and fun times with Loraine. As a nurse with the West River Nurse Honor Guard, I consider it a privilege to honor Loraine as my school nurse in Redfield and as a fellow colleague in stewardship and compassion in serving others. Honor Guards acknowledge and honor the everyday heroes who devoted their lives to the nursing profession.

Sending our condolences from the Bush family ( Randy, Sharlene, Peggy, Tim, Barb) Praying for strength, courage, comfort and peace for the difficult days ahead. You both were excellent for RHS, giving your heart and soul to your respective careers. The community was blessed to have you both in such vital roles of assisting and supporting young people! You changed lives for the better and we are far richer for having you in our lives when we were younger. Celebrate your sister and remember all the fond memories as she enters the gates of heaven.
Sincerely,
Peggy ( Bush) Meyer

So sad to hear of the loss of Loraine. I have so many great memories of growing up by the Larsen's and the excitement when “the girls” would be coming home. Our thoughts and prayers to you all

My sympathy, LaVonne. You two sisters were so close this will be an enormous void. You both saw 2-3 generations pass through the halls of RHS. Loraine was such a soft spoken caring nurse. I smile when I think of the two of you!

Dear Lavonne and family of Loraine,
I believe that Loraine will soon be singing Easter hymns to our Savior in heaven with the angels, saints, and all of our loved ones. In time, may your special memories give you all comfort. With heartfelt sympathy, Carmen
