Obituary

Linda Huber, 77, of Freeman, SD, went to her eternal home Friday, July 11, 2025, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston, SD, after a brief but brave battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 17, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Clayton, SD. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery in Tripp, SD.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Linda Sue (Rembold) Huber was born Thursday, May 27, 1948, to Walter and Viola (Davis) Rembold in Scotland, SD.  She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Parsonage in Scotland on September 3, 1948, and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kaylor on April 15, 1962. She grew up and attended grade school in Kaylor, where she helped on the family farm just north of town, assisted her grandparents, and played softball.  She and her family later moved to Tripp, where she attended high school and graduated in 1966.

Following graduation, she attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls and worked briefly at Gurney’s in Yankton.

Linda married Dennis Huber on July 6, 1969, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp. Together they farmed near Clayton, SD, and their son, Jon, was born in 1970.

Aside from helping with all aspects of running the farm, Linda had many interests including gardening, woodworking, yardwork, cooking and canning, and raising pheasants and chickens, but she especially enjoyed fixing things and helping people, both in and beyond her family.  One hobby, going to auction sales, led to nearly thirty years of preparing for and having rummage sales that many people looked forward to for good, clean household and cooking items, and she had a gift for finding creative solutions to all kinds of everyday problems for her family and her friends.

Linda was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for 56 years, and enjoyed helping with yardwork and repairs, potlucks, and anything that needed doing.

Thankful for her love and life of service are her husband, Dennis of Clayton; son, Jon of Parkston; sister Norma Garvey and brother Ed Rembold, both of Yankton; sisters-in-law, Karen Rembold of Spearfish, Darla Sorenson of Phoenix, AZ, and Debby (Kirby) Shroll of Sioux Falls; brothers-in-law, Darrel (Sue) Huber of Sioux Falls, and Don (Diane) Huber of Rapid City; nieces and nephews, Lori Rembold of Gilbert, AZ, Jodi (Loren) Garcia of Spearfish, Steve (Maggie) Garvey of Omaha, NE, Garrett (Sarah) Rembold of Rapid City,  Jodi Williams of Highlands Ranch, CO,  Jill (Neal) Bryant of Forest, VA, Wendy (Dave) Smith of Frederick, MD, Holly Huber of Sioux Falls, Darcy (Chris) Green of Colman, Andrew (Molly) Shroll of Cedar Falls, IA, Kara (Elliot) Blue of Brandon, David (Elizabeth) Huber of Menno, and Brady (Jill) Muth of Yankton; many grand-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and neighbors.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Viola Rembold, niece Heather Muth, brother Mike Rembold, brother-in-law Terry Garvey, parents-in-law William and Melitta Huber, and brother-in-law William Dale Huber.

In place of flowers and memorials, Linda’s family asks that you donate your gifts and time to your church, to a charity (especially toward cancer treatment and research), or donate blood.

Sincerest condolences to the Rembold and Huber families. Linda was a kind and gentle person…. So loved many years of playing softball with her! Even though we were on opposing sides…..and I was fortunate enough to be able to talk to her at the last Tripp Delmont reunion… heaven welcomed a special angel!
