Obituary

Leslie Nunez, 65, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2024, at his home under hospice care. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, December 6, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD at a later date. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.

Leslie Paul Nunez was born February 5, 1959, to Pedro and Nellie (Palmer) Nunez in Custer, SD. He graduated from Custer High School. He served overseas in the U.S Army. Leslie worked various jobs as a volunteer firefighter in Custer and Ethan, SD, Forestry Department, and as a Custodian. Leslie enjoyed fishing, cooking, going to sports, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and jamming to his music.

Leslie married Jody Van Den Oever on June 1, 1991. He was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Mitchell.

Leslie is survived by his fiancé Jody; sons, Matt (Jade) of Mitchell, Kyle (Samatha) of Mitchell, SD; sisters, Jeannene (Mike) Larson of Buffalo, WY, Deb Nunez of Council Bluffs; aunt, Donna Palmer; brothers-in-law,  Jerry (Lori) Van Den Oever of Wessington Springs, Jason (Linda) Van Den Oever of Marion, Jamie (Jennifer) Van Den Oever of Parkston; sister-in-law, Jill Van Den Oever of Mitchell; father-in-law, Kenny Van Den Oever; grandchildren, Bentley, Noah, and Kolby and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents, Pedro and Nellie; infant brother, Peter; mother-in-law, Donna Van Den Oever; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Im so sorry for your loss. Been thinking of Les lately and wish I could have come and said goodbye, until we meet again. I met him when he worked at Menards and we had many long talks. Rest in paradise my friend. Thoughts and prayers to all.

I'm gonna miss you so much Les! We worked together side by side for around 10 years....at electrical at Enertech. All the jokes and stories and music shared between us....all your funny jokes sent to me.....I'm going to miss this. I pray for your boys and grandchildren.....you loved them so much! I pray they find some comfort in all the memories of you! Love you Les!

Les was our neighbor for many years in Ethan. He was always a friendly person to be around. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace Les 🥰
