Leroy Schneider, 97, of Mitchell, SD, joined the Lord Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in Canton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 24, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM at Holy Three Kings Cemetery in Epiphany, SD. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.

Leroy Henry Schneider was born on January 31, 1927, to Herman and Mary (Mueller) Schneider of Spencer, SD. Leroy only went as far as eighth grade, but attained his high school diploma and two-year degree while in the service. He was always learning and enjoyed it.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and received an honorable discharge in 1953, so that he could return to the family farm after his dad suffered a serious farming accident. He eventually bought the farm from his dad and farmed it until he retired in 1994. He was always proud of the origin of the land, as it was where his grandfather settled.

Leroy married the love of his life, Ramona Dunn on October 10, 1959. To this union, three girls were born Marita, Rose, and Julie. To make the family complete, they welcomed their foster daughter, Sharron Cyphert, into the family in 1963, and has been loved as one of their own to this day.

After retiring from the farm, they moved to Mitchell where he resided until 2022, when he moved to Sioux Falls to be near family.

He is survived by his daughters, Marita (Gary) Marx of Sioux Falls, Rose (Greg) Rott of Spring Green, WI, Julie (Joel) Hendricks, of Crosby, MN, and Sharron (Robert) Jensen of Vermillion, SD; and sister, Delores Peitz of La Crosse, WI; and many grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona; three infant children; brother, Ray Schneider; and brother-in-law, Art Peitz.
