Leona Weeldreyer, 94, of Emery, SD, died Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, September 17, at First Baptist Church in Emery. Burial will be at Emery Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, at First Baptist Church. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Leona (Tammen) Weeldreyer was born December 24, 1926 to George and Dorothy (Janssen) Tammen at home near Bridgewater, SD. She attended Jefferson #6 country school through 8th grade. She then attended her freshman year in Emery. Leona worked at the telephone office in Emery and later at the telephone office in Sioux falls. While in Sioux Falls, she met Floyd Weeldreyer of Chancellor. On October 21, 1949, they were married at her parents’ home in Emery. Floyd and Leona farmed northwest of Chancellor until 1960 when they moved to a farm north of Emery. In 1992, they retired and moved to Emery. Leona helped out making and delivering meals with the Senior Meals Program. She was a member of Emery Senior Center and First Baptist Church where she was a member of King’s Daughters and Women’s Missionary Fellowship.
Leona was a very warm and caring person. She loved her family and looked forward to their visits.
Leona is survived by her three children: Marna (Roger) Mohrmann, Watertown, Ron (Suzanne) Weeldreyer, Bridgewater, and Sharon Weeldreyer, Emery. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Brad (Susie) Mohrmann, Brent (Christianne) Mohrmann, Aaron (Kamelia) Weeldreyer, Chad (Rachael) Weeldreyer, Kristi (Preston) Johnson, Ryan (Jill) Budahl, and Scott (Kati) Budahl; eight great-grandchildren: Katelynn Mohrmann, Nathan Mohrmann, Kenton and Elliott Weeldreyer, Tenley, Adaline and Seeley Johnson, Dominic Budahl, Emilee, Presley and Dawson Budahl; sisters-in-law, Audrey Mechels, Connie Weeldreyer, and Luetta Weeldreyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; parents, George and Dorothy Tammen; brother, Herman, and sister-in-law, Irene, Tammen; sister, Henrietta, and brother-in-law, LeRoy, Letcher; granddaughter, Heidi Sue Weeldreyer and great-grandson, Henry Lawrence Budahl.
