Lawrence “Larry” Loes, 81, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM Thursday, May 21, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at the Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at the Church with a 6:30 PM prayer service.
Lawrence Leo Loes was born on June 1, 1944, to Ray and Cecelia (Wethor) Loes in Mitchell, SD. He grew up attending St. Martin Catholic School in Emery and graduated from Emery High School. Larry served in the Army National Guard as a member of the 147th Army National Guard Band.
On April 11, 1969, Larry married Joan “Joni” Burbridge at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Larry worked as a salesman for Griggs Clothing, Carquest, and co-owned L. J. Clothing Inc.
Larry enjoyed golf, fishing, and bowling. He also loved spending time with family and attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joni Loes; children, Timothy (Sheryl) Loes and Michelle (Andrew) Roeder; seven grandchildren: Alexander (Mollie) Loes, Austin (Lilly) Loes, Adam (Sarah) Loes, Zach (Christina) Roeder, Nicole Roeder, Benjamin Roeder, and Andrea Roeder; six great-grandchildren, Thea, Henry, Louie, Beckett, Reece, and Amelia; and sisters, JoAnn Heck of Parkston, SD, and Mary Rae (David) Butterwick of Johnston, IA;
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Keith, and brother-in-law James Heck.
