Obituary

Larry Wittenhagen, 88, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, August 22, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.

Larry Herman Wittenhagen was born March 6, 1937, to Herman and Anna (Sandman) Wittenhagen in Mitchell, SD. Larry married Katherine (Matthews) Wittenhagen on July 23, 1960, in Luverne, MN.

Larry worked for Miedema Sanitation for 27 years, Dick’s Taxi for 6 years, and Mitchell Packing Company for 24 years.

Larry is survived by his children, Jason Wittenhagen of Mitchell, Larry (Ruth) Wittenhagen of Mitchell, Travis (Jen) Wittenhagen of Mitchell, Randy Wittenhagen of Woodenville, WA, Sharon (Rick) Youngbluth of Mitchell, Bonita Wittenhagen of Parkston, and Jeff (Jeanne) Matthews of Sioux Falls; along with 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kitty; daughter, Brenda Wittenhagen; a son; one grandson, two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and four sisters.

Jen and Travis, and the rest of the family: My thoughts and prayers are with you. Even though your dad lived a good, long life, it is still hard to see them go to their next home. I am sure he was welcomed to Heaven by Kitty and the rest of his family that went before him. God bless you all.
