Kaye Frances McCardle was born September 13, 1934, in Eagle River, WI, to Francis “Jack” and Alberta (McCormick) Johnson. Kaye graduated from Eagle River Union High School in 1952 and matriculated to Barat College of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, IL. Deciding on a larger campus, Kaye transferred to Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. While at Northwestern, Kaye was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a degree in elementary education in 1957.

Kaye accepted her first teaching job in Rhinelander, WI, where she met her future husband, Dr. Robert (Bob) McCardle. Kaye and Bob married in 1959. Kaye and Bob moved to Iowa City, IA, while Bob worked on receiving his doctorate degree from the University of Iowa. Kaye and Bob then moved to Mitchell when Bob accepted the position as superintendent of the Mitchell School District. Shortly after Bob’s unexpected death in 1989, Kaye moved back to her hometown of Eagle River, WI, but visited Mitchell frequently to visit friends and family.

Kaye was the ultimate homemaker, creating a welcome environment for anyone who came to visit. In addition, Kaye became an avid bridge player, joining various bridge clubs and playing in hundreds of tournaments throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest where she earned lifetime Master points. Kaye also had a passion for traveling, especially to her favorite destination of Germany, where she made numerous trips with family and friends.

Kaye is survived by her three children: Kevin (Catherine) McCardle, Molly (Gene) Ahlborn, Mary (Brian) Eliason; ten grandchildren: Robert McCardle, Elizabeth McCardle, Charles McCardle, Margaret Kirby, Abbigale Ahlborn, Madeline Ahlborn, Lindsey Janklow, William Janklow, Ava Eliason, and Anna Eliason; and two great grandchildren: Russell (R.J.) Posted by Bob Burns, from MSP. Alas, God has called one of his Angels home. I was a Summer time Eagle River guest on vacatioon from School at Notre Dame. I had the most fun of my life wth the beer drinkng age crowd water sking, boating and dancing. Kaye was great at all of those things. She was inteligent and quick to laugh at things. We kept "in touch" with Christmass letters up to this past year. Please keep a place for the "Eagle River gang" to gather again up there ! I'm 2 yrs older than Kaye so I'll be gping soon but my health is good and I still have most of my hair and it's still black.

Remembering all the fun we had in Eagle River...water skiing speed boat riding at the "Isle O B" and bar hopping every summer for years. I am very sorry for your and everyone's loss. She was a special woman and friend.
