Obituary

Kathryn “Kathy” Bruske, 66, of Mitchell, SD, died Friday, August 30, 2024, peacefully at home with her husband by her side, after her courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Friday, September 6, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.

Kathryn “Kathy” M. Bruske was born on January 7, 1958, in Mitchell, SD, the daughter of Lawrence and Marie (Koster) Hohn. She grew up in Mitchell and attended Notre Dame Catholic School. She then attended Mitchell public school and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1976. In her teen years she worked at I-90 Truck Stop and various other hospitality jobs.

Kathy married Dennis Bruske on September 8, 1978 in Mitchell at Holy Family Catholic Church. Soon after marrying Dennis, Kathy started at Kmart where she worked for 26 years. While at Kmart she made lots of friendships that she cherished all her life. She then worked at Sungold Sports until retirement.

Kathy and Dennis cherished their time together and most importantly just being together, no matter where that might be. Their strong love for each other was adamant and a strong foundation for their sons, Michael and Jesse. Kathy loved being a mom and grandma, and her favorite times were being with her beloved family and friends. Some knew her as Kathy, we knew her as Mom. She was the one everyone turned to, the rock of the family, and the most loyal person.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Dennis; sons, Michael (Niecole) Bruske and Jesse (Ashley) Bruske all of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Larry (Susie) Hohn of Rock Falls, IL and Ernie (Debbie) Hohn of Mitchell, SD; five grandchildren: Natalie Bruske, Jalen Knobe, Tyler Bruske, Taylor Bruske, and Kaiser Bruske; and numerous beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty Faller, and brother Terry Hohn.

I have know Kathy since high school. We always had fun together and maybe drank some cocktails in our younger years. What a wonderful, witty, tough lady. We could always talk when we run into each other, like we never grew apart. May God hold your family close.

I worked with Kathy almost 10 years at Kmart. She was such a a joy to be around. Such a wonderful friend all those years, and then reconnecting with her in Facebook.
