Kathryn Lubinus, 72, of Platte, SD, died Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte. Burial will be at Platte City Cemetery. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Kathryn “Kathy” Elizabeth Lubinus was born October 6, 1950 to Lyle and Donna (Carlson) Muser in Huron, SD. Kathy was raised on the family farm outside of Erwin, SD. She graduated as valedictorian from Erwin High School.

After high school, she initially attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, where she met her future husband, Richard Lubinus, on a blind date. They married on June 10, 1972. She completed her elementary education degree from Huron University. Rick and Kathy later moved to Platte, SD where they raised their four children. Initially, Kathy was a grade school teacher, but she later chose to become a homemaker to raise her four children. She was a secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte, and also taught in Geddes, SD for a year. The last three years of her life were spent living at Edgewood Prairie Crossings Assisted Living after having suffered a major stroke.

Kathy loved butterflies, gardening, and canning. She also enjoyed attending high school athletic and musical events in Platte. Kathy loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her son, Brent (Michelle) Lubinus of Brandon; daughters, Stephanie (Mike) Olson of Albert Lea, MN, Melanie Lubinus of Heredia, Costa Rica, and Valerie (Adam) Shriver of Valley Springs, SD; six grandchildren: Caleb Banks, Colby Banks, Jackson Lubinus, Steven Calvo Lubinus, Lynn Shriver, and Claire Shriver; sisters, Marlene (Randy) Knutson of Clark, SD and Susie (Ken) Dolph of Christiansburg, VA; and sisters-in-law, Nita Muser of DeSmet, SD and Sharon (Roy) Housman of Rapid City, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her parents, and brother, William Muser.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte, SD.
