Katherine Dittman was born to Walter and Josie (Spratford) Dittman on February 17, 1922 in Mitchell, SD. She was one of four siblings. She grew up in Alexandria, SD, graduating in 1940. She worked in Pierre as Secretary in the House of Representatives and Secretary to the Secretary of State in Pierre. She was the Deputy County Auditor and part-time court reporter in Hanson County, until her marriage March 8, 1946 to John Scott in Alexandria. They lived in Mitchell while John finished college, and Katherine worked at Montgomery Wards. She helped her husband at Scott’s Vallet Cleaners. John died on June 15, 1971.

On October 30, 1987, she married Larry Huber from Alexandria, SD, and they lived in Mitchell until his death April 26, 2008.

She was a member of First Reformed Church, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 75 years and served as Past Matron. She was a member of the Unique Study club for over 60 years –although she said they had more fun than did any studying! She belonged to several bridge clubs and loved any kind of cards and enjoyed putting puzzles together. She was a big believer in donating organs and helping others.

Katherine is survived by her three children, Joella (Robert) Anderson of Brookings, SD, Tom (Reeny)  Scott, and Patricia (Lance) Koth of Mitchell, SD; four stepchildren, Rod (Polly) Huber, Lynn (Dave) Terveen, Peg (Kurt) Kummer, and Karen Huber; eight grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 19  step-grandchildren. We thank God for the many years we had to cherish her.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, parents, two sisters, Martha Bridger and Margaret Daigh, and her brother, Walter (Bud) Dittman Jr.

i did not know her, but knew Larry and also Tom, Renee, Patti and Lance. I would like to extend my sympathy to the families. I enjoyed watching your video tribute and could not believe how much Tom looks like his dad. May she rest in peace. A hundred years is a very long life. How in awe she must have been of how things had changed over that length of time. Now, she can be with the angels.

All, I was sad to hear of your mom’s passing. I remember so well working at the cleaners with Katherine,Tom, and Patty. I enjoyed the everyday. Of course Katherine would get a little frustrated with us kids now and then, having a water fight now and then with Patty. Tom I always remember the good times we had working together, day and night. Lol. Take care. Praying for the family.

I have so many happy memories of Katherine. From the time I married Morris, Larry's cousin, and we were dancing with a group of friends to the last few years when I had the privilege of being her across the street neighbor. Loved our talks over coffee and I loved being her friend. Her family was so blessed to have her for 99 years. Have a Happy Heavenly Birthday on Feb. 17th Katherine, I'll be thinking of you. God be with her family and those who loved her.
