Justin Everson, 35, of Plankinton, SD, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 26, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Mizpah Cemetery in Plankinton. Visitation will be Friday, July 25, from 5-7:00 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Plankinton with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Justin Michael Everson was born November 5, 1989, to Todd and Debra (Gerlach) Everson at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. His family moved to Plankinton, SD when he was four. Justin attended Plankinton High School and Southeast Tech in Sioux Falls, SD, graduating with a degree in business.

Justin married Stephanie Vawser in 2011, and together they were blessed with two daughters and a son.

God was a very real part of Justin’s life. He was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in Rapid City and confirmed and an Elder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Plankinton. Justin actively participated in Church events and activities with his family.

Justin enjoyed coaching and cheering on his children in all their activities whether it was softball, basketball, volleyball, music programs, or any other school activity; the family could always count on Justin being there. He also enjoyed golfing with family and friends, boating on the family pontoon, and fishing.

Justin was employed for more than ten years at Chesterman Coca-Cola in Mitchell, SD. Justin believed in doing a job right. His days were often longer than 8 hours because he did what was needed to get the job done for his customers.

Every person Justin encountered was just a friend he hadn't yet met. Justin saw the good in others and had a skill for bringing out the best in those around him. Those lucky enough to be a part of Justin’s life undoubtedly have many stories to share.

Justin is survived by his best friend and devoted wife, Stephanie Everson; beloved children, Addisyn, Charlie Mae, and Blake; father, Todd (Tracie) Everson; mother, Debra (Steve) Pickart; sister, Janessa (Travis) Coon; maternal grandfather, Larry Gerlach and paternal grandparents, Verle and Carol Everson; parents-in-law, Barb (Greg) Stahl and Dave (Tammy) Vawser; siblings-in-law, Sheena Vawser, Matt Vawser, Scott Vawser, Chase Mackey, and Zach Vawser.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jean Gerlach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Justin’s memory to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Plankinton, SD.

Justin was one of a kind. He tolerated our crazy chaos and always had time for friends and family. He loved hard and played hard. He enjoyed life to the fullest and knew what was important in life. Steph, Addy, Blake, and Charlie: you all have one hell of a guardian angel and he now has the best seat in the house! We are here whenever you need anything and your family will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers!

I was unfortunate in not having a closer relationship with my fun, easy-going, easy-to-love cousin! I'm just so glad to know that He accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. There's peace in knowing I will spend eternity side by side with him praising our King!
Justin is a goal-getter! He managed to serve his God-given purpose in half the time that most of us need! Amazing!
I believe Justin was a selfless person and hardworking for his lovely family.
He knew what usually takes a long time to learn; that the more pure-hearted service and giving you do, the more joy God, the Father gives you. Happiness comes and goes with circumstances, but true joy is everlasting!
Please learn the lesson Justin demonstrated in his life, put away self-seeking and live to serve God by loving and serving others, your neighbors, (family, friends, people that are barely passing through.) Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Justin exemplified how to make this temporary world a better place to live while we occupy this space.
His parents, wife, kids, friends, and day to day acquaintances are extremely blessed to have had him in their lives! Praise God for Justin!
I can't wait to see you again, brother!
