Obituary

Josephine “Jo” Christensen, 101, formerly of Mitchell, SD, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD. Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM Monday, July 14, at Bittner Funeral Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. Private family graveside services will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell.

Jo was born on March 22, 1924, to John and Helen (Jasman) Regynski. Jo married Leslie Christensen on July 24, 1943, in Mitchell. They spent their married life in Mitchell, where Jo worked for Social Services for many years.

Jo loved playing cards with her many friends and continued to do so after moving to Leisure Living in Hartford, SD, in 2012. She moved to Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD, in 2021.

Jo is survived by her son, David (Teresa) of Hartford; three grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Christensen of Sioux Falls, Jessica (Darin) Koedam of Larchwood, IA, Justin (Alyssa) Christensen of Hartford; six great-grandchildren, Hailee and Ean Christensen, Hadley and Maccoy Koedam, and Taylor and Connor Christensen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, in 1990; son, Larry Christensen, in 1997; and several brothers and sisters.

Jo was a customer at the cleaners when I worked there. She was a lovely lady and I enjoyed her.

Deepest sympathy to Jo’s family. I met Jo through my mother-in-law, Dorothy, who was one of Jo’s card playing pals. They sure had good times together.
