John Sonne, 52, of Ethan, SD, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at his home in Ethan. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 5, at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at First United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
John Allen Sonne was born March 13, 1972, to David and Gayla (North) Sonne in Mitchell, SD.
John lived with his friends while attending high school in Ethan. After graduating from Ethan High School, he attended Mitchell Technical Institute for welding.
John met Mashell (Wittstruck) Sonne at the Ethan Street Dance. John raised Anthony Donovan as his own son, and John and Mashell had four more children, Tabitha, Gabby, Makayla, and CJ. His kids were his whole world, always at every event, and always right behind to support them.
John worked at MDS in Parkston for four years and Hendrickson in Mitchell for 20 years.
John loved racing, fishing, camping, and hanging out with his friends and family. He always lit up the room he entered and could always put a smile on anyone’s face. He loved being a firefighter and helping people. John was a proud member of the Ethan Methodist Church and Ethan Fire Department.
John is survived by his sons, Anthony Donovan of Sioux Falls, SD and Christopher Sonne of Tea/ Ethan, SD; daughters, Tabitha Sonne, Gabriel Sonne, and Makayla Sonne all of Sioux Falls; sisters, Wanda Wubbena of Rock Rapids, IA and Samantha Baseier; and his father, David Sonne.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gayla Sonne; best friend, Christopher Schoenfelder; grandparents, Rueben and Edna Sonne, Betty and Ole North; aunt, Darlene Sonne; and uncles, Dale Sonne, Dennis Sonne, and Don Sonne.

We had so many fond memories brother and we always had each others back
At least we were able to find the honey hole one last time this summer . Camping and fishing just won’t be the same with out your my dearest friend
