Obituary

John Savoy, 65, of Mt. Vernon, SD, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025, at his home in Mt. Vernon. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, August 2, at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Friday, August 1, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.

John Carol Savoy Jr. was born on August 30, 1959 to John Sr. and Geraldine (Fertitta) Savoy in Beaumont, TX, at St. Therese Hospital. He was one of seven children. He spent his childhood in Vidor, TX. John completed 11 years of school, and received his GED before entering the US Air Force at the age of 17.

While in the service, John experienced different countries as an aircraft mechanic. John was honorably discharged in 1988. He was proud to have served in the Air Force and always loved to share stories of his adventures.

After returning home from the service, John spent a short time at home with his family before being invited to visit his cousin, Charles Fertitta, in South Dakota. It was during this visit he met Angela. John and Angela were married in Sioux Falls, SD in August of 1994. To this union, five children were born. In 2008, John and Angela divorced, but remained close until John’s passing. John loved his children and grandchildren. It was his life mission to see them happy, safe, and make many memories.

John worked at Sam’s Club, John Morrells, Pivot Power, but spent most of his years working with Leon and Joesph Havermann doing construction, which he was very good at since he was a whiz with numbers. John worked until his health began to decline over the past few years.

John will be sorely missed with his morning coffee with Joe Suing, where they talked politics, women, and of course children and family. He will be remembered for his smile and easy-going attitude, except for when you stepped on his toes. John’s heart was huge, and he loved to help, listen, and offer advice when he could. He was always supportive and appreciative.

John leaves behind his five children, John (Allissa) Savoy, Kattie (Nick) Croeper, Crystal (Anthony) Tucksen, Fredrich Robinson III, and Jessie (Brandon) McCormick; grandchildren, Avery, Tiana, Ariella, Bexly, Willa, and Greyson; sisters, Anna Hampshire and Monica Barron; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stephen, David, and Christopher; sister, Mary Queen; two nephews and two nieces.

We worked overnight to finish a taping job to get it done , we seemed to always go out of our way to get it done. Our disputes over the broncos and the dolphins or how you should have been a cowboy in a different era because you were good with a six gun Smith and Wesson 😆, John we have been through so much together that you were my 3rd brother ill miss you so much brother until next time, God bless, safe journey, love ya

Well buddy I sure wish I could of had one more cup of coffee with ya, from the first time I met ya with Charles and Angela to going on out of town jobs for construction companies, I remember when we were in our prime hanging sheetrock for companies and literally being called on by them to save their asses because they were way behind and we would walk in there with our crew and catch them up the Sheraton at the arena. The time I moved my family down to Texas, to help you do construction. As the years went by so did the memories, the cigarette dangling from your mouth as we just went through the ditch because the roads were icy on our way to Watertown in the old black crown Victoria, all the jobs we did for Midwest partitions to get them back on schedule. I remember asking you what the heck is a boudan ball was until I ate one and fell in love witgeh them, To be the perfect meal you had to eat them with fried okra . The miles of sheetrock we hung together on several jos .the night

Truly, one of the greatest! You were definitely cute from a different cloth. You Loved With No Condition. Left Condemning Up To God And Not Once Judged Another. I'm gonna miss your talks , try to be as great as you, and on to your values. Thanks Unc. For The Wisdom You've Shared and Love You Gave.
