Obituary

Joel Jansen, 79, of Plankinton, SD, died Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, November 3, at Plankinton United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Mizpah Cemetery in Plankinton. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at the church with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Joel Lavaughn Jansen was born May 27, 1943, to Clarence and Mary (Steckman) Jansen in Sioux Falls, SD. He attended Arizona State University, Dakota Wesleyan University, and Dakota State University.

He worked various jobs over the years including South Dakota State Training School for 25 years, Mitchell Fire Department for four years, heavy equipment operator for five years, and for the Aurora County Conservation District.

Joel was united in marriage to Rosemarie Lienemann on August 29, 1984 in Mitchell.

Joel enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. In his younger years, Joel was a pitcher for slow-pitch softball. He lived for Wednesday night golf during the summer and Sunday Golf Scrambles at Desert Sands Golf Course in Mesa, AZ during the winter.

Joel is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Jansen; sons, Chad (Betsy) Jansen of Mitchell and Lee (Kelly) Schroeder of Upton, WY; daughters, Rachel Anderson of Rapid City and Amy (Brian) Hosman of Sioux Falls; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and brother.

Joel & I went in the Navy together---were close friends as kids. Sorry to hear he passed.

Sympathies on Joel's passing. I remember him well from our High School days as we were together most of the time. He was truly a gifted person and a friend to others.
