In Loving Memory

Jerry Lee Boyd

January 17, 1938 - July 6, 2025

Jerry Lee Boyd was born on January 17, 1938, to Marie Schultz and William Boyd Jr. on a farm north of Plankinton, South Dakota. He attended Turner School through the eighth grade and then attended Plankinton High School. In 1959, he was confirmed into faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he remained a member until his passing.

Jerry farmed north of Plankinton for many years before managing the Ponderosa Bar, which was owned by his parents. Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with his friends and patrons. Later, he worked for Centennial Carpet and eventually opened his own business, JB Carpet, in Chamberlain. He proudly operated the store until his retirement in 2014.

In his later years, Jerry loved spending time on the front porch, visiting with friends and family. He especially enjoyed the company of his good friend Harold, who often stopped by to chat or go for a drive. Anyone who knew Jerry will remember his signature response when asked how he was doing: "Finer than frog hair."

Jerry shared 68 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Sharon (Hohbach) Boyd. Together they raised a loving family: sons, Steven (Sandy) Boyd and Curtis (Suzie) Boyd, and daughters, Brenda (Stuart) Cazer and Kimberly (Craig) Paulson. He was a proud grandfather to: Christopher (Sheena) Boyd, Michael Boyd, Steven Boyd, Danielle Boyd, Ryan Boyd, Alexandria Boyd, Brandon (Sheba) Cazer, Preston (Tifany) Cazer, Tallon (Sarah) Cazer, Logan (Rachel) Cazer, Kristian Cazer, Eian Cazer, Heather (Brian) Lipe, Brice (Nanci) Paulson, Hillary (Skyler) Bloch, and Cole (McKeely) Paulson. Jerry was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren: Emberlee Boyd, Keaton, Tayge, Kysen, and Braylie Cazer, Isabella, Vince, Lilly, and Rocky Krajefska, Madilyn, Nolan, and Reed Cazer, McKenna and Brett Paulson, Noah Boyd, Alayna, Kollyns, and Lucy Bloch, and Vienna Paulson. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Carroll, and brothers, Jim Boyd (Babe) and Lenny Boyd (Penny), along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will carry his memory with love.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, William Jr. and Marie Boyd; his son, Steven Charles Boyd; grandson, Logan Reed Cazer; daughter-in-law, Julie Joy Boyd; brother-in-law, John Carroll; and many beloved family members and dear friends.

Jerry’s family would like to thank Avera Hospice Care for their exceptional care of Jerry.
