James "Jim" Lynde
Dates
November 3, 1943 - June 1, 2024Obituary
James “Jim” Lynde, 80, of Mitchell, SD, died Saturday, June 1, 2024, at his home under hospice care surrounded by family. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, June 6, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.
James Alan Lynde was born on November 3, 1943, to Kermit and Leone (Cole) Lynde.
Jim grew up with his six siblings: brothers, C.C., Roland, Charles, and Larry, and sisters, Shirley and Patricia. He attended schools in the Hansen / Miner County area.
Jim married Connie Kampshoff on July 28, 1962, at the Church of the Epiphany in Epiphany, SD.
Jim worked at many companies, including helping build Interstate 90 through South Dakota. In 1974, he started working at Trail King Manufacturing until his retirement in 2008. His last job was one he enjoyed the most, keeping the greens and fairways in pristine condition at Lakeview Golf Course.
Jim was an active member and supporter of the Holy Family Catholic Church. Jim and Connie enjoyed greeting at Saturday Mass.
Jim was a family man. His greatest pride and joy were his wife and family. He loved to pheasant and deer hunt with his boys, nephews, and grandchildren. After a couple decades of applying for an elk license, Jim drew in 2021 and finally notched his tag on a Black Hills Bull Elk.
Jim was a dedicated lifetime member at the neighborhood Moose Lodge, bringing many along the way.
Jim enjoyed stock car racing on the dirt tracks. His beefed-up race car was a 1956 Chevy Bel Air. Let us not forget Jim and Connie’s time spent on two wheels traveling with friends.
Jim and Connie enjoyed golfing with their friends. Jim managed to get an ace at three of the four par threes at Lakeview Golf Course. In addition to golfing, Jim and Connie enjoyed traveling to see their family, to bowl with friends, and spending their first five years of retirement wintering in Arizona.
Jim was a jack of all trades. He knew a little bit about everything, and those who spent time around him learned lessons that last a lifetime. The man could overhaul a motor and build anything you desired. Jim was a determined man and never quit.
Jim will be greatly missed by his wife, his family, and his friends.
Jim is survived by his spouse of 61 years, Connie; five sons, Todd (Kim) of Sioux Falls, Terry (Michelle) of Mitchell, Tim (Anne) of Sioux City, IA, Troy (Cheryl) of Mitchell, and Ted (Mimi) of Delphi, IN; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Jim was the first neighborhood friend I met when we moved to Mitchell in 1953. We had many adventures together as young kids…..I never forgot his friendship and times we were together. Glad to see he had a fulfilling life with family and friendships! RIP JIM.
My deepest sympathy to Connie & the boys,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you
