Maxine Joyce Oleson was born on February 6, 1926 in Orient, SD, to Orville and Josephine (Mueller) Eaton. She grew up in Orient and graduated from Orient High School. She worked in Aberdeen at the State Employment Office. Maxine married her high school sweetheart, Loyd Oleson, in Orient on April 14, 1947. The couple had seven children, and Maxine was a stay-at-home mother.

Maxine was a talented seamstress, making many of the family clothes, draperies, and organ and speaker covers for Loyd’s musical equipment. She was a talented cake decorator, making wedding cakes for most of the family weddings. She enjoyed surprising friends with a birthday or anniversary cake. Her favorite items to buy were saws, drills, and sanders for woodworking projects.

She was Loyd’s biggest fan and was so proud of his musical talent. Her faith was very important to her and she attended daily Mass faithfully from early adulthood until her passing.  Maxine was a member for Holy Family Catholic Church since 1957. She loved being around her family.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Loyd Oleson, Mitchell; sons, Doug (Carol) Oleson, Lebanon, TN, Tim Oleson (Tami Keller), Lewiston, ID, Pat (Sandy) Oleson, Mitchell, Alan (Sara) Oleson, Omaha, NE, and Mark (Anna) Oleson, Reno, NV; daughters, Stephanie (Tom) Long, Sioux Falls, SD, and Mary (Randy) Weiss, Liberty, MO; 17 grandchildren, Chris (Shelly) Long, Beth (Patrick) Tisher, Jessica (Chad) Schultz, Erica (Michael) Cleveland, Megan Oleson (Eric Landes), Malinda (Wesley) McMurtrey, Ryan (Jonathan) Hall, Matthew Oleson, Andrew Oleson, Alexa Oleson, Paul (Mariah) Weiss, Laura (Josiah) Plattenburg, Nathan Oleson, Nicholas Oleson, Kali Oleson, Viviana Oleson, Victoria Oleson; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ted (Wanda) Eaton, Bellevue, NE, Dick (Evie) Eaton, Lewiston, ID, and Mary (Richard) Kelly, Young America, MN.

My deepest sympathy to Alan and the rest of the family. I met Maxine and Lloyd at HDR where Alan and I both worked. Such wonderful people and no surprise after meeting them why Alan was such a great guy. Maxine remembered me several Christmases with a card and letter, which I always felt was so thoughtful of her. I'm sure she will be deeply missed by her family and all those who knew her.
