Hubert Bietz, 91, of Mitchell, SD, passed peacefully Monday, November 1, 2021, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Sunday, November 7, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with visitation from 1:00-2:30 PM prior to the funeral service. Hubert Gerhart Bietz was born in Scotland, SD on Feb. 16th, 1930. He lived in Minnesota, Alaska, North Dakota, Arizona, and Germany, but returned to his beloved South Dakota when he reached retirement age.

During the Korean War, Hubert was stationed in Germany for the U.S Army, and served in the Adjutant General’s Corps. Hubert received recognition for his ability to speak naturally in various German dialects, supporting U.S. Intelligence work in Germany during the Cold War.

Hubert pursued several career paths in his life from owner of Alaska North Rapid Mobile Home Sales to participating in the development of South Dakota’s first alcohol fuel plant, but mostly his interests centered around the sale of mobile homes, vehicles, and farm machinery. Hubert’s life-long passion was the automobile and road trips. Hubert held the record for the longest mobile home transit from Caribou, ME to Anchorage, AK as part of a military feasibility study.

Throughout Hubert’s life, his faith was a central part of his character. All that knew him also knew of his strong beliefs. He goes now into the care of God and will be missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Bietz; sons, James Bietz of Sioux Falls, and Steven (Kara) Bietz of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Christy Schultz of Sioux Falls, Naomi (Matt) Hasner of Mitchell; grandchildren, Ashely, Aaron, Ryan, and Lauren; and brother, Leland Bietz of Mitchell.

Hubert is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Percilla Olsen, Hildor Peterson, and Darlene Bietz.
