Obituary

Gladys George, 92, of Mitchell, SD, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Corsica, SD. Visitation will be on Friday, June 28, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.

Gladys Norma George was born on December 5, 1931, to Gus and Anna (Fuchs) Wiezorek on the farm west of Plankinton, SD. She attended country schools and graduated from Plankinton High School in 1949.

Gladys married Karl E. George on December 6, 1957, in Mitchell, SD.

Gladys worked primarily at medical facilities, including Brady Memorial for over 20 years. She enjoyed caring for people.

Gladys volunteered at the Corn Palace for many years. She was also a Cub Scout Den leader and Girl Scout leader. She was instrumental in starting RSVPatrol Volunteer program and volunteered for several years. Gladys was nominated for the 1999 Jefferson Award in recognition of outstanding public service to the community.

Gladys loved to go walking and spending time with her family and friends.

Gladys is survived by her children, Megan George of Sioux Falls, David of Palm Coast, FL, Doug (Karen) of Mitchell, and Jeff (Bonita) of Mitchell; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry; and sister-in-law, Darlene Wiezorek.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; daughter, Kathy; two brothers, Robert and Walter; and three sisters, Peggy Kolbrek, Betty Gottardo, and Ruth Wynn.

I worked with Gladys at Brady for years What a wonder, caring woman. She taught me many things about caring for residents and being a great friend. She definitely deserves wings of an angel. Thank you, Gladys!

She is now at peace. So thankful that my mom and I saw her last summer when we were in Mitchell. My sincere condolences to all the family.
