Geraldine “Gerry” Oberembt, 92, of Mitchell, SD, died Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Edgewood Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service from 12-2:00 PM at the Church. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Geraldine “Gerry” Marie Oberembt was born on April 15, 1930, to Andrew and Mathilda (Wehner) Fritschen, in Farmer, SD and was the second of five siblings. Gerry attended St. Peter’s Catholic Grade School in Farmer, SD and St. Agatha Catholic High School in Howard, SD.
She married Gerald “Jerry” Oberembt on June 27, 1955. They were married for fifty-seven years. Gerry was employed at Mabee’s Eye Clinic for thirty years as a medical assistant. Her remainder years were spent as a devoted wife and mother.
Gerry was a longstanding member of the Holy Family Catholic Church participating in the Altar Society and volunteering in various capacities. She will be remembered for her deep faith and love for the church, her family, and her friends. Gerry had a talent for decorating and enjoyed gardening and yard work. Gerry was known for her well-executed garage sales and enjoyed the interactions with those that attended.
She was a proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and enjoyed taking part in their lives and activities. In her later years, she developed quite a sense of humor that she carried to the end.
She is survived by her four daughters, Kathy (Rick) Johnson, Mitchell, Sandy (Don) Bouwens, Lincoln, NE, Lisa Wipf, Mitchell, and Laurie Izzard, Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Marian (Julius) Schultz Sioux Falls, SD and Ruby Fritschen of Great Falls, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Mathilda Fritschen; granddaughter, Samantha Kay Wipf; two sisters, Marge (Eugene) Kolbach and Beverly (Jim) Guenther; two brothers, Andy Fritschen and Robert (Hazel) Fritschen; and son-in-law, Nick Izzard.
