Obituary

Gerald Berg, 79, of Mitchell, formerly of Emery, SD, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, at his home in Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Monday, November 25, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Emery. Burial will be at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in Emery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-3:00 PM at the Church with a 3:00 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Gerald Edward Berg was born September 22, 1945, to John and Josephine (Haler) Berg in Mitchell, SD. Gerald graduated from Emery High School and worked on the family farm.

Gerald was a proud member of the St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Mitchell VFW, Pleasant Township Board, and Elks Club. He was a socializer and enjoyed social clubs and morning coffees.

Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family. He regularly gathered with the Berg family every Sunday after church. Some of his favorite memories were taking his children to the Missouri River in Chamberlain.

Gerald is survived by his children: Robert (Heidi) Berg of Emery, Andrew (Erin) Berg of Sioux Falls, Cindy (Kerry) Donahue of Dimock, Christi (Kurt) Schaeppi of Sioux Falls, Cathy (Jim) Long of Edina, MN, and Carla (Todd) Berg of Pensacola, FL; sisters, Regina Nolz of Mitchell and Eleanor Weber of Spearfish; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael and Mark Berg; sister, Rita Weber; and brothers, John and Ray Berg.

I met Gerald at the country side assisted living in Mitchell in my travels as a CNA/Med Aide. He always had a smile on his face and would always tell me about his children and his farm. My deepest condolences to you all, much love and prayers

Gerry has been a dear friend for many years. Always a cheerful man and we shared many laughs. My sincere condolences to all the family and many friends. He will be missed.
