Obituary

Gary Preszler, 87, of Dimock, SD, passed away peacefully Monday, February 9, 2026, at his home under hospice care surrounded by his devoted family. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 14, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-6:30 PM at the Church with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Gary Esten Preszler was born on September 2, 1938, in Menno, SD, to Albert and Hildegard Preszler. He received his education in Menno, graduating from Menno High School before attending Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, South Dakota. He began his professional life as an educator in a small rural school. Gary later joined the State of South Dakota Livestock Sanitary Board, where he worked for 42 years. His service to the state was marked by loyalty and excellence, and he retired after more than four decades of meaningful contribution. Following his retirement, Gary was employed with Iverson Chrysler for 17 years, where he transported vehicles across the country, a role he greatly enjoyed.

On December 27, 1961, Gary was united in marriage to Bonnie Hauser at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Dimock. Together, they built a strong and loving home, raising four children: Lisa, Richard, Lori, and Ron. Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great‑grandfather whose greatest joy came from time spent with his family.

Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting, and having morning coffee at City Hall. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, and reading a good novel. He also enjoyed working in his yard and took great pride in keeping it manicured. His community service included 26 years on the Dimock Town Board, membership in American Legion Post #261, and dedicated involvement on both the cemetery and church boards. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Earlier in life, Gary honorably served his country, receiving an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force.

Gary is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie Preszler; children, Lisa (Bob) Endres, Richard Preszler, Lori (Bill) Condon, and Ron Preszler; grandchildren: Ryan (Ashley) Endres, Josh (Amelia) Endres, Whitney Endres (Trevor), Chelsea (Nick) Helmers, Jacob Condon, and Drew Condon; and his great‑grandchildren: Olivia Gibbs, Owen Endres, Onna Endres, Oliver Endres, Kase Endres, Jack Endres, Paxton Helmers, Huxley Helmers, and Brixton Helmers.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Hildegard Preszler, and his brother, Arlo Preszler.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Dimock, or the Dimock Cemetery.

I was sad to learn about the passing of Gary. I have fond memories of him as my neighbor when we lived in Aberdeen. Bonnie and Gary were such great neighbors and good friends to me, my parents, Merlyn and Joan Gilbert, and sisters.
