Obituary

Ernest Bork, 61, of Mt. Vernon, SD, died Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 14, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Mt. Vernon Fire Hall.

Ernie was born on a spring day on April 26, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois, to Jerome and Rhennetta (Korbic) Bork. As a child, the Borks lived on the North Side of Chicago in the Palmer Square neighborhood. The family moved to Drue Lake, IL, in 1972. Ernie spent the next 10 years in the Gurnee, IL area. He graduated from Warren Township High School in 1982. Ernie graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University with a business degree in 1987. Ernie's love for football began in grade school and continued throughout his Dakota Wesleyan career.

Ernie married Cindy (Streetr) Bork in 1992. That same year, they moved to Mt. Vernon. They had one son, Hunter. Everyone who knew Ernie enjoyed his sense of humor. He was a great joke teller with a great laugh. Ernie also loved pheasant hunting and fishing trips to the Missouri River. Ernie spent most of his life in South Dakota.

Happy to have shared his life are his brothers, Randall (Tracy) Bork of Mt. Vernon, SD, Jerry (Lori) of Rapid City, SD; nephew, Maxwell Bork of Mt. Vernon, SD; nieces, Reva Bork and Rhennetta Bork of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Bork; son, Hunter Bork; parents, Jerome of Rhennetta Bork.

Worked with Ernue at the Training School long ago. Substitute taught at Mt. VERNON SCHOOL. when Hunter was there. Well at least Ernie and Hunter can be together once again.

My girls were also friends with his son when we lived in Mt Vernon.

My dear friend! So many good times we had, met this guy when he was 19, never a dull moment! A lot of sadness too! I will never forget you and your family. Many hugs we shared, fly with a angels, show them a good time,sure will miss your laugh!

I always enjoyed talking with Ernie. Always a bright spot in my day when we would run into each other, always the jovial, jokester one. Always made me laugh. Sure gonna miss him. RIP Ernie.
