Obituary

Elreda Brewster, SFO, 92, of Mitchell, SD, formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at her home under hospice care with family by her side. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Friday, April 17, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watertown. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM Scripture Service.

Elreda Jean Brewster, the daughter of Lonigin John and Cecilia Augustina (Lesniak) Reese, was born on April 10, 1933, in New England, North Dakota. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1952. Attended Wright College associate in accounting in 1988, Dearborn Financial Institute, Inc. life insurance FIF in 1999 in IL. She married Joseph R. Brewster on November 21, 1953, in Watertown at Immaculate Conception Church.

She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, the Third Order of St. Francis (SFO) of the Little Portion Community of Marshall, MN, Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars (past District President), Boys & Cub Scouts, Jr. Mothers Club, Center for Bio-Ethical Reform (CBR-MNDAK), and Right to Life.

Elreda enjoyed swimming, reading, listening to music, and family and friends.

Elreda is survived by her children, John (Betty) Brewster of The Villages, FL, Thomas (Laura) Brewster of Park Ridge, IL, Theresa Glozeris of Mitchell, SD, Susan Brewster of East Troy, WI, Gerard (Christen) Brewster of Chicago, IL, Katherine Brewster of Countryside, IL, Augustina (Gerald, deceased) Shenkman of Murrieta, CA, Charlene Brewster of Chicago, IL, Roberta Brewster of Chicago, IL, Harriet (Patrick, deceased) McHale of Huntsville, TX, and James Brewster of Mitchell, SD; her 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers.

My condolences on the loss of Elreda. She was such a joy to know. She truly reflected the light of Christ. Her faith was so natural and engrained in her everyday conversation. I loved talking to her about our faith.

Our sympathy to the family of Elreda. I first met Elreda at the Nowak/Lesniak family reunion in Grenville.Or maybe it was when we were visiting Geivieve Gaikowski in Webster. So sorry to hear the news about Aunt Elreda. She was one of a kind and loved family. She never forgot my birthday and was so joyful. I have so many sweet memories of her and will always cherish them. I'm sorry to say that I can't make it to the service, but my cousins will be in my prayers .
