Obituary

Edward Klose, 85, of Mitchell, SD, passed quietly with family members at his side on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Friday, April 4, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be at St. Margaret’s Catholic Cemetery in Kimball at a later date. Visitation will be Thursday, April 3, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.

Edward Laverne Klose was born on December 16, 1939, in White Lake, SD, to Sylvester (Tootie) and Bernadine (Timmisch) Klose. He attended Rural Grade School and graduated from White Lake in 1958.

He married Virginia Klose (Hohbach) in 1960, and they had three children: Teresa Vallejo (Mark), Julie Erickson (Sean Mason) and Susan Sare (Larry).

In 1981, he married Doris Picek. His profession as a welder saw him at Bailey’s Welding and subsequently retiring from Trail King after 22 years. He taught welding at Mitchell Technical Institute.

Ed enjoyed traveling, which included a fishing trip to Alaska and wintering in Arizona, and rode his motorcycle for some of their travels.

He kept busy with his tilling business for over 40 years, playing in a pool league, playing golf, and square dancing with his wife and friends. You could readily find him tinkering in his workshop and basement making and repairing golf clubs and ball retrievers, and other things that interested him. He loved to fish for walleye and loved to go camping. Ed became a member of the Mitchell Moose Lodge 875 in 1967, and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from Moose International.

He is survived by his wife; three children; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, EvaLou Wells; three nieces and a nephew; and stepchildren, Katherine Luke (Tom) and Jim Picek (Linda).

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, stepmother Helen Klose, stepdaughter Anna Marie Waters, a nephew, and numerous brothers and sisters in-law.
