Obituary

Duane Verzani, 74, of Mitchell, SD, died Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Visitation will be Friday, December 27, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Burial will be at a later date at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour, SD.

Duane Allen Verzani was born in Wagner, SD on January 15,1950; he was the son of Joseph “Fred” and Alice (Berndt) Verzani. He spent his younger years in Delmont, SD where he graduated high school in 1968.

Duane was united in marriage to Mary Verzani on September 30, 1972.

After their marriage, they moved to Mitchell, SD where he worked several different jobs. Including the I-90 truck stop, Tilberg Construction, Fair Manufacturing, and Hendrickson Manufacturing.

Duane loved to go hunting, fishing, and camping. He also loved reading Western books and watching a good old Western show.

Duane is survived by his daughter, Joan (Lee) Kayser; son, Nick (special friend Kary) Verzani; honorary daughter, Jen Triebwasser; grandchildren: Sammantha (Andy) Prickett, Cassandra Kayser, Joseph Kayser, Kolson Verzani, Alyssa Kayser, and Leaha Hotchkin; great-grandkids, Jake and Ruby Prickett; sisters, Kay (Ben) Folden, Mary Grosz, Carol (John) Ceaman, and Jodie Verzani; sisters-in-law, Norma Verzani, Carol (Greg) Hansen, and Tammy (Tim) Kaltenbach; brothers-in-law, Paul (Mary Lou) Loneman, and Mark (Dawn Sommer) Loneman; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Fred and Alice Verzani; parents-in-law, Leo and Pat Loneman; brothers, Jerry and Ronald; sister, Jean Ann; brother-in-law, Don Grosz; nephews, Mike and Dean Verzani, Benjy Folden, and Eric Loneman; nieces, Alisa Folden, and Amy Folden- Childree; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of Prairie View Health Care Center in Woonsocket, SD for their incredible, compassionate care.

Oh, Duane! We were so saddened to hear the news of your passing. I have memories of you as far back as 1967, and Larry longer than that. Rest in peace dear friend.

My late friend Tim Wethor worked at the truckstop back in the 80s and Duane worked there as well there very sweet man.

Duane was a Very Wonderful person...he always had time to clean My shot gun...after the hunting season at his In-laws The Loneman family... Now he AND His Wife Mary are together again
