Obituary

Donna Mick, 89, of Mitchell, SD, died Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 31, at First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery in Tripp, SD. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Donna Mae Mick was born on April 18, 1935, in Pierce, Nebraska, to William and Lydia (Endes) Brodhagen. Shortly after her birth, her mother passed away. Donna’s aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Ted Beehler, took her in at six weeks old and raised her as their own. She had three older sisters, Dolores, Mardel, and Helen, who their grandmother raised. Her aunt Elizabeth and uncle Ted had two sons, Donald and Eugene, who became her older brothers. She was ten years old when her uncle Ted, who she called Dad, passed away. Donna grew up in Delmont, South Dakota, where she attended school from kindergarten until she graduated high school in 1954.

She married James Mick from Tripp, South Dakota, on June 2, 1956. Donna worked for Friedrich’s I.G.A in Tripp for eighteen years, until it unfortunately closed. She then worked at the Tripp Good Samaritan Center in Tripp for another eighteen years until retirement. She belonged to the Tripp Methodist Church and the Women’s Group.

After her husband, James, passed away on May 25, 2007, she moved to an apartment called Cathedral Square in Mitchell, South Dakota. She transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell and belonged to the church’s bible study group.

Donna enjoyed reading love stories, doing crosswords, and solving puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending time with her favorite and only granddaughter, Elizabeth, and her favorite and only grandson, Patrick. Donna, of course, adored her time with her only son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Jill. She also enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies and other baked goodies for her whole family.

Donna is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jill Mick; grandson, Patrick Prickett; granddaughter, Elizabeth Mick; and all the other special people in her life who adopted her as Grandma Donna.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mick; son, Clayton Mick; her birth parents and adopted parents; sisters, Dolores, Mardel, and Helen; brothers, Donald and Eugene Beehler; and in-laws, Margaret and Leona.

Donna was my aunt and I remember being with her and Jim in Tripp when I was growing up. She prepared wonderful meals for us and was always smiling. She was a wonderful woman who made everyone with her smile. Rest in Peace, Donna.
