Dennis Alvin Fink was born on June 11, 1941, on the family farm near Hillside (northwest of Delmont) to Alvin and Rose (Wegehaupt) Fink. He graduated from Delmont High School in 1959 and from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 1964 with a Civil Engineering degree. In 1962-63 he worked summers for the highway department and then began working full-time for the South Dakota Department of Transportation in Platte and in Mitchell, retiring in 1998 with 35 years of service.
Dennis was united in marriage to Anita Fridley on April 16, 1967, at Hope Lutheran Church in Delmont. When his children were little, he enjoyed taking the family on camping and fishing trips and an annual trek to watch Minnesota Twins baseball games. Following his retirement, he became very interested in family genealogy and liked researching and documenting family history, including a 2002 trip to Germany with the Fink Heritage Tour.
An engineer at heart, he designed and constructed a sunroom addition to their home which he enjoyed relaxing in every summer. He especially cherished having his 1966 Pontiac Catalina convertible restored which was used in several weddings, car shows, and parades throughout the years. Dennis was also an avid follower of Dakota Wesleyan basketball and loved to watch his two grandsons play sports. He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council.
Grateful for having shared his life are: his beloved wife of 59 years, Anita Fink; son, Steven (Emily) Fink and grandchildren Joseph and Alex Fink; daughter, Stacey (Aaron) Buchholz, all of Sioux Falls; and brother Larry (Meribeth) Fink of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Fink.
