Obituary

Dennis Burckhardt, 83, of Emery, SD, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, at Oakview Terrace Nursing Home in Freeman, SD. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:30 AM at Emery Senior Center in Emery. A private family burial will be at Emery Community Cemetery. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Dennis Elmer Burckhardt was born December 24, 1938, to Elmer and Asther (Polesky, Burckhardt) Preshun. He grew up on the family farm near Russell, MN. He graduated from Russell High in 1957, he also attended SDSU.

Dennis loved to fish, hunt, garden, and watch football when he could get away from work at Hanlon-Burckhardt Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, which was started in 1966. He worked for the City of Emery after retiring, he also served as a Fireman for over 40 years. He enjoyed guiding pheasant hunting groups for many years.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Darrell (Medine Krupin) Burckhardt; daughter, Joy (Ron) Golembieski; stepsons, Josh (Steph) Harvey and John (Molly) Harvey; stepdaughter, Jen (Bill Lehrman) Harvey; grandchildren, Paul (Kim) Burckhardt, with children Zachary, Bradley, Lincoln and Erik; James (Andrea) Burckhardt, with daughter Genevieve; Nathan (Samantha) Butler; Nicole (Dave) Foley, with children Connor and Colton; siblings, Lenny Burckhardt, Terry Burckhardt, Linda (Sheldon) Schultz, and Jeff (Vicki) Burckhardt.

He was preceded in death by his son, Brad; his parents; sister, Darlis; and brothers, Stanley and Daniel.

Denny was a great guy, always quick with a smile or a hug. He was very proud of his kids. He went above and beyond for his customers in Emery and the surrounding areas.
RIP Denny, The angels in heaven will be blessed to have both you and Brad.
