Dawn Sampson, 59, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2026, after a lifelong battle with mental illness. Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Dawn Marie Sampson was born October 19, 1966, to Charolette (Titze) and Bob Sampson in Mitchell, SD.

She was happiest in the company of her companion dachshund, Lavish, and spent most of her time with her mother, Char, browsing local thrift stores for hidden treasures.

Dawn took great pride in her home, finding peace in keeping a tidy space and frequently redecorating to make it her own. She was an avid reader, enjoyed concerts, and loved to share a good laugh. Above all, she loved watching videos of her grandchildren and watching them grow.

Dawan is survived by her mother, Charolette; son, Justin Sampson of Austin, TX; two daughters, Brianna (Andrew) Boonstra and their children, Lillian and Cameron Boonstra of Omaha, NE, and Corie Jo (Michael) McPeek and their daughter, Dakota McPeek of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, April Peterson (Sampson) of Tulsa, OK; and brother, Shane Sampson of Moville, IA.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Sampson, and grandparents, Wilma and Orville Titze, Mildred Bailey and Alan Sampson.

No formal funeral services will be held; a Celebration of Life may follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or a local mental health organization.
