Obituary

Darlene Paulson, 88, of Mitchell, SD, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 2, at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Fulton, SD. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 PM at the church with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Darlene Marlys Paulson was born June 22, 1937, to Milford and Viola (Bertram) Plamp in Hawkeye, Iowa. When Darlene was a young girl, her family moved to South Dakota. She attended Mitchell High School and met Jim Paulson at their shared favorite weekend hangout, the Roller Rink. Jim and Darlene dated and were wed in 1956; from that night on, they never missed a Saturday dancing date night.

Together, they raised their three children, Deborah, Craig, and Linda, on their dairy farm, where they taught them the values of hard work, faith, and family. Darlene was a beautiful person and very talented in numerous endeavors. She would rise early to start milking in the dairy barns, and she helped Jim create a successful farm. She was happiest with flour on her hands, her sewing machine out, a craft project on her table, or holding a little one in her rocking chair. She loved flowers, and there was always a vase of fresh flowers on her kitchen counter, especially lilacs in the spring.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Jim Paulson; children, Deborah (Harley) Munneke, Craig (Kimberly) Paulson, and Linda (John) Jones; sister, Marilyn Plamp Hohn; and many grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Darlene is now at peace and reunited with those who went before her, her father, Milford Plamp; mother, Viola Plamp Wieczorek; stepfather, Leonard Wieczorek; brother, Delmer Plamp; sister-in-law, Diann Plamp; brother-in-law, Terry Hohn; granddaughter, Jonalin Jones; niece, Kimberly Plamp Schoenfelder.
