Danny Hohbach, 70, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026, at his home in Mitchell. Funeral services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Danny Alan Hohbach was born September 11, 1955, to Donald and Maudene (Kuder) Hohbach in Mitchell, SD. He grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1973. Following high school, Danny proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was stationed in California on the USS Ajax. Danny saw many countries in his travels with the Navy.
Throughout his life, Danny lived in Mitchell, Huron, and Henderson, Nevada. His work ethic and reliability were evident in the many roles he held over the years, including warehouse associate at Dakota Supply Group, warehouse manager at Enertech Manufacturing in Mitchell, and before he moved back to S.D. at Dick Blick Art Materials, where he worked for 16 years in Las Vegas. While living in Las Vegas, Danny also worked at the Bellagio Casino, where he enjoyed the excitement of the city and had memorable encounters with Michael Jordan and Mike Tyson.
On May 28, 2011, Danny married the love of his life, Tricia Oakleaf. Together, they shared a quiet, meaningful life and especially enjoyed spending time outdoors in their yard, tending to it, and relaxing together.
Danny always made sure to call his family every week to see how things were going. He would drive around Lake Mitchell and stop at the cemetery every day. He loved life, camping, and was very talented at doing art projects and paintings.
Danny is survived by his stepson, Tyler (Amanda) Oakleaf of Southborough, MA; stepdaughter, Tomena (Sawyer) Peterson of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Diana (Denis) Slepikas of Huron, SD; brother, Doug (Penny) Hohbach of Letcher, SD; three step-grandchildren, Ornette, Ellington, and Percy; nephew, Chris Hohbach of Huron; and niece, Jamie (Stan) Cass and their children, Taryn and Roy, all of Huron; Wesley (Laurel) Davis of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tricia; his parents, Donald and Maudene Hohbach; several aunts and uncles; and his niece, Alison Slepikas-Davis.
