Daniel Scott, 73, of Fedora, SD, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, November 5, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Daniel Lee Scott was born on September 14, 1948 to Howard Scott and Goldie Lee at Methodist Hospital in Mitchell, SD. He attended grade school in Fedora where his mother was a teacher and where he was active in local 4-H. Dan graduated from high school in 1966 as a member of the last class to graduate from Fedora High School. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota in 1970 and a master’s degree in mathematics in 1976. He taught math in the Mitchell Community School District and served as the President of the Mitchell Education Association.

The farm at Fedora was Dan’s home for his entire life. He enjoyed the land, livestock, hunting, and the Minnesota Twins. He particularly loved being outside with his animals raising a variety of cattle, sheep, hogs, and exotic chickens. He was also fortunate to have traveled the world with friends.

He will be missed by his brother, David (Molly) of Spencer, IA; two nephews, Fred Scott (Brette) of West Des Moines, IA, and John Scott (Kristin Herrick) of Kalamazoo, MI; and niece Kate (Jeffrey) Lamb of Marshalltown, IA. He will also be remembered by his cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Scott was my math teacher in Junior High. He was very patient with me and I’m sure my siblings. We are not math minds, but he kept trying so that we would. He was a good man, kids didn’t make it easy for him, but he was a dedicated professional. My brother and I are both teachers in the Mitchell District and remember Mr. Scott fondly. Rest In Peace, as teachers, we know you have earned your heavenly reward.

I am so sad to read this, Danny was a great and super sweet guy. Danny graduated with my parents Garland and Janelle Schrank and I can remember visiting with him at each and every high school reunion. Prayers to you all.
